NRU RETURNS TO SERVICE AFTER PLANNED SHUTDOWN; NOW OPERATING AT HIGH POWER

May 17, 2012—Nordion’s primary supplier of medical isotopes, Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL), reports that the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor in Chalk River, Ont. has returned to service from its planned 30-day maintenance shutdown on schedule, and is now operating at high power.

Throughout the shutdown, Nordion worked closely with our customers and took steps to minimize the impact of supply. Nordion expects our production quantities will return to normal within two weeks.

An important priority for Nordion remains the safe and reliable supply of high-quality medical isotopes to meet the needs of the medical community and the patients it serves.
